Dream Stuff is the active inauguration of this newly created ensemble. This concert-inauguration not only enacts the beginning of the ensemble’s career but also serves as a kind of ritual; a ceremony with the purpose of prophesying a fruitful, successful and long lasting existence.
As Prospero put it in The Tempest by Shakespeare, “We are such stuff | As dreams are made on”. We all, musicians, audience, programmers and staff, are the materials that go into creating an illusion, a shared vision; in other words, the creative power able to bring artistic wishes to reality. In order to materialize this endeavour, we invite the audience to take part in this four-stepped collective alchemistic rite, realised in four pieces:
Wim Henderickx summons the energetic essence of the BASIC ELEMENTS: Air, Fire, Water and Earth, as the basic material with which stuff can be made of. Henry Vega invokes CRAFTMANSHIP with music knit mirroring fabric textures, which is man-made material symbolizing the required skills. Anne La Berge manifests ARTISTRY in the form of improvised own choices. Ji Youn Kang conjures shamanic intervention, as the MAGIC touch, which brings dreams to life.
“(…) We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.”
The Tempest (Act 4, scene 1, 156–158), Shakespeare
May we all, for this musical lapse of time, awake form our Shakespearian dream of life into true reality.
